There are so many of us who think that we aren’t significant enough to make a difference, that this world is so far gone no matter what we do we will never impact it for the better. I strongly disagree with that. I feel like with the world being the way it is it’s getting easier and easier to make a difference.

As Christians, Jesus calls us to go make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). He calls us to do nothing out of selfishness but to value others above ourselves. (Philippians 2:3-4). I feel like these two verses alone prove that we can make a difference. If we do for others out of humility, love, and value we will impact their life. There’s no “we might make a difference in their life” or “maybe it’ll help them”. I’m positive it will. They may not thank you or even be kind to you while you’re being kind to them. You’ve shown them the love of Christ, though, and I assure you his love WILL impact their life.

So, how do we start making a difference? We don’t have to go crazy. We can simply start small acts of kindness and love. It can be something as little as holding the door open for someone behind you or in front of you, or you could work with your church on their next outreach.

Many people have the misconception that in order to make a difference they have to impact the whole world, and this simply isn’t true. Making a difference starts with your own community, your back yard. Take the time to look around, and see how you can make a difference around you. Allow Christ to work through you, and be willing to go, to give and to do for others as Christ did. Be the light in this dark world.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. – Philippians 2:3-4
