There’s something so special about hearing scripture at a wedding ceremony. Whether it’s in the vows, a reading, or a quiet moment of reflection, God’s Word has a way of grounding the day like no other. At Three Twenty Studio, we’ve had the joy of witnessing so many beautiful weddings, and we always love when couples incorporate Bible verses into their big day!
If you’re looking for some inspiration and guidance for including a verse into your ceremony, here are a few of our favorites (all from the ESV translation!):
1. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
This one’s a classic for a reason. This passage reflects the character of Christ. Jesus exemplified this love in His ministry—He was patient with His disciples, kind to sinners, forgiving to those who wronged Him, and selfless in His sacrifice. As Christians, we are called to imitate Him, meaning this kind of love should guide our words, actions, and attitudes every day! It’s a beautiful reminder of what love looks like—not just on your wedding day, but in everyday married life.
2. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
We love this verse because it highlights the power of partnership. Marriage isn’t just about love—it’s about support, teamwork, and standing strong together through life’s ups and downs.
3. Song of Solomon 3:4
“I found him whom my soul loves.”
Talk about romance! This short and sweet verse beautifully captures the deep connection and joy that comes from finding the one your heart longs for—a perfect sentiment for your wedding day. If you’re looking for a simple yet profound verse to include in your vows or decor, this one is a 10/10 for us!
4. Romans 12:10
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
Marriage is about lifting each other up and honoring one another everyday. This verse encourages couples to not only love each other but to go above and beyond in showing respect, kindness, and selflessness—values that help a marriage thrive over time
5. Mark 10:9
“What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
This verse is often included in traditional ceremonies, and for good reason! It’s a powerful reminder that marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God. It serves as a reminder that marriage is more than a contract—it’s a lifelong commitment that should be protected and cherished!
6. 1 John 4:19
“We love because he first loved us.”
His love is the foundation of every strong marriage! When couples reflect God’s love in their relationship—through grace, patience, and sacrifice—they build a marriage that reflects His goodness and faithfulness.
Whether you’re writing your vows, planning your ceremony, or just looking for a verse to reflect on as you prepare for marriage, we hope this list gives you some inspiration! No matter which verse speaks to your heart, the most important thing is that your wedding day reflects the love and commitment you share—not just with each other, but with God.
Happy wedding planning!
