Photo Printing Companies: Artifact Uprising vs. Nations Photo Lab vs. Parabo Press

Since Dylan and I have started up our photography gig with Three Twenty Studio, we’ve decided it be a good idea to check out some printing companies that we can use and that we can recommend to our clients. This blog is a review and comparison on 3 companies: Artifact UprisingNations Photo Lab, and Parabo Press. To help you out I’ll be weighing some pros and cons and sharing our ultimate decision on who we will be printing with.

Artifact Uprising

We decided to order from Artifact Uprising first because they had a deal going on that was 10 any size Everyday Print set for free + $8 shipping. I am always served their beautiful ads, and I know many photographers that order from them. We ordered 10, 5”x7” Everyday Prints, and here are the pros and cons.

Pros

  • High quality textured and matte

  • You get to choose if your prints have a white border or not

  • They come nicely packaged in a slide-out box

  • Color came out great

Cons

The only con I have is the price. There was a deal going on that allowed us to get 10 prints for $8, but the normal price is $15 for 10 prints + $8 shipping for a total of $23 ($2.30 each). While this isn’t outrageously priced, it is still a con for us.

Nations Photo Lab

One of the wedding photographers that has really inspired us is Joy Michelle, and she recommended Nations Photo Lab for prints. We ordered 5”x7” lustre prints from them and were very pleased. They were on sale when we ordered for $.53 each, but the regular price is $.88 each.

Pros

  • High quality lustre print

  • Color came out great

Cons/Differences

I wouldn’t say there are any cons with these prints; they are just different from these other two companies. The luster print is a more traditional photo print rather than the trendy prints like Artifact Uprising and Parabo. It is the same thickness as a traditional photo print, but it’s not high gloss like a traditional photo print.

Parabo Press

I don’t remember how we stumbled upon this company (probably an ad), but I’m so glad we did! One great thing about Parabo Press is that they always offer 25 square prints for free, and you just pay shipping. We ordered these to try them out and were beyond pleased.

Pros

  • High quality textured and matte 100% recyclable paper

  • You get to choose if your prints have a white border or not

  • They come nicely packaged in a zipper pouch

  • Color came out great

  • Price is great

Cons

The only con I have for Parabo Press is the amount of time it took for them to arrive, but that was because I picked the cheaper shipping. If I would’ve picked the $10 shipping, it would’ve been faster, and I would’ve gotten a tracking number.
update: Parabo Press has increased prices, and their quality has gone down which has changed our recommendation.

our conclusion

While we were very impressed with each of these companies, the company we’ve decided we will primarily order from is Artifact Uprising. They have a lot of great products that are high quality. They are really great at keeping up with the trends as well.
